Opening a can of Golden Path IPA

From IPA to the next big thing in beer, here are the brews you should be cracking open right now.

In a bygone era, bottle shops almost exclusively stocked the same old beers. You know, the kinds of beers your dad likes. ‘Beer-flavoured’ as he calls it. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that. After all, it takes a bloody good product to stand the test of time (and our ever-changing tastebuds). But between us, we’re pretty chuffed that beer brewers have embraced their experimental side in recent times.

For starters, it’s injected a healthy dose of colour into the fridges. But more importantly, it’s given us a great excuse to spend a little more time in the beer section. Do you like it fruity or dry? Hoppy or malty? How about brewed with actual marshmallows and chocolate for a s’mores-y hit of sweetness? No matter how you take it, you can bet on finding a craft beer that sizzles your sausage.

From pale ale and IPA, to Aussie wheat beer and tried-and-true lagers, here are the beers you should be cracking open right now.

Pale ale

Crisp, bright and bursting with buckets of flavour, pale ales make for excellent esky stuffing. Ticking all the boxes for classic beer taste, with just enough individuality to make you stop and say, “what do you call this then?” they’re loved by all and sundry.

Panhead Sandman Hazy Pale Ale

Soft and silky, this tropical treat is inspired by a certain 70s icon: the Holden Sandman Panel Van. It’s juicy, it’s refreshing, it’s bloody good stuff.

New Dawn Brewing Lower Carb Pale Ale

This organic brew packs tonnes of flavour with fewer carbs and is 99% sugar-free. The future of pale ales? Just might be.

Pirate Life Californian Pale Ale

In a word: dank. Plenty of stone fruit and sticky pine flavours with a hoppy, biscuity bitterness to boot.

Aussie wheat ale

You’ve heard of wheat beer, now meet Aussie wheat ale – the brand new beer style setting the craft world alight. It’s uniquely Australian and unlike anything you’ve ever tried before. Bold, zesty and ready to replace whatever you’re currently drinking, we’re betting on this being the beer of the future.

Pirate Life Aussie Wheat Ale

This beer is all about aroma. Floral and citrusy with a crisp and refreshing finish, this is precisely the kind of laid back, easy-drinking flavour Aussie beers are famous for.

Mountain Goat Aussie Wheat Ale

Everything Mountain Goat touches turns to gold, and this Aussie Wheat Ale is no exception. A modern beer for modern tastebuds.

Matilda Bay Aussie Wheat Ale

These guys have been championing Aussie wheat beers for over 35 years, so it’s safe to say they know a thing or two. Hazy with a huge splash of citrus. Thank us later.

Here you’ll find the kinds of blockbuster brews that put craft beer on the map. We’re talking turn-it-to-eleven levels of flavour. IPAs aren’t for the faint of heart, but they will pull on the heartstrings of big flavour seekers everywhere.

Garage Project Golden Path Hazy IPA

This ultra-hoppy number is as hazy as they come, telegraphing its bold flavour hit before you’ve even had a sip. Unrivalled alongside a big cheesy burger.

Atomic Hazy IPA

The word ‘sessionable’ gets thrown around a lot, but Atomic’s Hazy IPA is undeniable. Balancing juicy hops with a soft, elegant mouthfeel, this beer will have you coming back for more.

Feral Biggie Juice IPA

This festival favourite has cemented its place in the craft beer hall of fame with its luscious flavours of passionfruit, peach and melon. A modern classic.

Lager

Lager is kind of like the blueprint for beer. It’s clean and crisp and goes down well with beer lovers of all stripes. But don’t think that diminishes its quality. These brews are anything but boring.

Cracka Yak Craft Lager

Tasmania is blessed with natural beauty, and the beer’s pretty good too. Case in point: Yak Brewing’s Cracka Yak Lager. Floral, herbaceous and beautifully balanced. Crack one today.

Moo Brew Tassie Lager

Here’s a beer that everyone can get behind. Clean and crisp with that classic Aussie dryness, Moo Brew’s Tassie Lager might just be our new go-to. Enjoy ice-cold.

Hawke’s Lager

Here’s a beer that certainly passes the pub test. Brewed with all Australian ingredients, it’s got a clean citrus flavour and a soft, dry finish. A fitting tribute to our most famous imbiber.
