A non-alcoholic Margarita cocktail

This cracking non-alcoholic recipe brings real-deal flavour with none of the alcohol.

About the cocktail

Searing lime acidity, desert-drenched agave aromas, and a little salt for added crunch and intensity, it’s no wonder Margaritas are so hot right now. And with booze-free spirits getting better each and every day, it’s only fair to add zero%* alcohol drinks to that list, too. So, if you think about it, bringing the best of both worlds together in this mighty mocktail is a no-brainer.

And besides, the Margarita’s no stranger to a spin-off. From Jalapeno and Passionfruit to Strawberry and beyond, this classic cocktail’s got serious range. Mixing it with the best of them and always down for a hot take, the Margarita plays nice with a huge variety of flavours. But she won’t budge on three things: salt, citrus and agave – elements that this Margarita mocktail has in spades.

Tequila forms the core of this flavoursome holy trinity. Made from sun-baked blue agave cactus, it brings big earthy aromas and a fiery, fruity hit. Taking the flavour to 11 while dialling the alcohol down to zero, swap out tequila for a zero%* alcohol agave or tequila spirit. Next is the triple sec – normally alcoholic, but here we swap in a zero% version for that same burst of orange citrus. And then, of course, there is the agave syrup. This adds natural sweetness (AKA not too sugary) and lets the final ingredient strut its stuff. We’re talking about lime, of course. Get ’em fresh and give ’em a good squeeze for a sour, citrusy finale.

So, there you have it – a marvellous Margarita without the booze that has all the delicious hallmarks of the classic.

Dan’s top tips

With so many different types of tequila out there, you might be wondering which one works best in your Marg mocktail. For the classic, blanco or reposado are our go-to picks. Aged for less than a year, both exhibit clean, neutral flavours perfect for mixing.

In good news for low-alc aficionados, most zero%* alcohol agave and tequila alternatives offer the same versatility of tequila blanco and reposado without forsaking that iconic agave flavour.
