Remember those delicious Fruit Tingles lollies back in the day? They came in lime, orange, raspberry and lemon, and were satisfyingly fizzy. Well, it’s a little-known fact they were an Aussie invention, dating back to the 1930s. And it was only in the 1960s that this old-school sweet treat inspired a cocktail of the same name. Colourful, sweet and fruity, just like the lollies, it was an absolute hit with the movers and shakers of the time, who probably danced The Twist while taking a few sips. We mean, sunshine pop and candy cocktails – what’s not to love?
Fast-forward to today, the Fruit Tingle may not be on everyone’s lips like a Martini or Mojito, but it’s still a popular throwback drink for those who prefer something refreshing and colourful. A not-so-serious drink that is an excellent party starter, it’s perfect for summer and spring drinking.
Unlike most cocktails, it hasn’t changed much since its creation – the original recipe had a generous splash of raspberry syrup or cordial, but here, the crème de framboise adds a bold, fruity and authentic taste.
