Four delicious chocolatey cocktails to make at home

Is there anything better than chocolate? Yes – a chocolate cocktail.

I once saw a tea towel that said, “Nine in 10 people love chocolate and one in 10 is a liar.” And while I’m not usually swayed by novelty tea towels, this one made a good point. Everybody loves chocolate in one way or another, even if they say they don’t. Because there’s nothing better than chocolate – except for a chocolate cocktail.

Chocolate makes everything better, and that includes cocktails. But don’t go thinking a chocolate cocktail has to be a sugar-rushed explosion of sweetness. The best thing about chocolate is there are so many different kinds. So, even if you prefer your chocolate dark and bitter, or nutty, or minty, or citrusy, you can have your chocolate cocktail that way, too. Below, we’ve pulled together four essential chocolate cocktails that’ll soothe your sweet (or bitter) tooth.

The Mudslide is one of the best chocolate-based cocktails
1. The Mudslide cocktailWhy have a regular dessert when you can have a dessert and cocktail combo? A Mudslide really is the best of both worlds. An oozy, gooey mix of chocolate, coffee and Irish cream are blended together to make a cocktail that’s kind of like a very grown-up version of a frappé. Our recipe features a chocolate syrup drizzle and a honeycomb garnish, so yeah, this is definitely one for the sweet-tooth.
2. The Toblerone cocktailAnother blended wonder of the chocolate cocktail world is this Toblerone-inspired number. If the Mudslide is the original dessert cocktail, then the Toblerone cocktail is its Swiss cousin. A mix of coffee, hazelnut and Irish cream liqueurs are blended together with ice cream and chocolate sauce to create an homage to the iconic chocolate bar. The only way it could be more Toblerone is if we could somehow make it triangular.

The Dan's Hot Chocolate cocktail is a brilliant winter warmer
3. Dan’s Hot Chocolate cocktailIf warm cocktails are more your vibe, then Dan’s Hot Chocolate Cocktail is what you’re looking for. Honestly, there’s no better way to spend a chilly evening than rugged up at home with a warm mug in your hands. This lusciously silky mix calls for melted chocolate to create a super-smooth hot chocolate that’s rich and powerful. But the addition of bay leaves and cloves adds an aromatic twist that really takes it to a new level. And if you really want to be creative, try adding a dash of chilli powder for a really warming twist.
4. Nutella MartiniAt some point we’ve all been that kid – or let’s be honest, adult – who’s shoved a whole spoon of Nutella in their mouth. Now, how good would it be if you could actually drink that flavour instead of almost choking on a spoon of thick spread? Introducing the Nutella Martini, the solution to all of your Nutella cravings. Yes, yes, it’s probably the most un-Martini Martini you’ve ever seen, but when it tastes this good, who cares? Shake it together, pour it into a choc-hazelnut rimmed Martini glass, and make a toast to guilty pleasures.
