What is Prosecco?
Prosecco is a sparkling white wine with origins in Italy. Made from the grape variety Glera, it’s produced in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions in the country’s north. Named after a Village in the Province of Trieste, Prosecco can be sparkling or semi-sparkling, although still wines are also made. From 2020 onwards, Prosecco rosé wines have also emerged – this variety of Prosecco is blended with 10–15% of Pinot Noir.
How do I get Prosecco Wine home delivered?
You can walk into your nearest Dan Murphy's liquor store and pick up your order within 30 minutes of placing it online, or select our handy direct-to-boot option in certain stores. Dan Murphy’s offers the lowest liquor price guaranteed across Australia for beers, wines, and spirits. Stock up on your favourite brands and get ready to enjoy them with your friends and family!
What is the best way to store Prosecco at home?
Unopened Prosecco keeps well in a cool dark spot at home, away from heat and direct sunlight. Anywhere between 10 and 15 degrees works well, so a wine fridge is great but a pantry or cupboard does the job too. One thing most people don't know is that Prosecco is better stored standing up rather than on its side. Once you open a bottle, seal it with a sparkling wine stopper and put it straight in the fridge. The bubbles don't hang around for long though, a day or two at most before it starts going flat.
What food goes well with Prosecco?
Prosecco's light bubbles and slight sweetness cut through rich and salty flavours really well. Some of the best things to eat alongside a cold glass of Prosecco are:
- Prawns and fresh seafood: A classic Australian combination, especially in summer. Cold prawns with a glass of Prosecco is a great match.
- Smoked salmon and cream cheese on crackers: The saltiness works really well with the bubbles
- Cheese boards: Soft cheeses like brie and camembert are particularly good, though a sharp cheddar works too.
- Sushi and sashimi: The clean, light flavour of Prosecco belnds really nicely with Japanese food
- Antipasto platters: Cured meats, olives, and grilled vegetables all pair well with it.
- Salt and pepper calamari: a pub favourite that happens to go really well with a cold glass of Prosecco
- Fresh fruit: Strawberries in particular are a perfect match
- Light pasta dishes: Nothing too heavy, but a simple seafood or cream based pasta works well
- Aperol Spritz snacks: If you're making spritzes, cheese straws, bruschetta, and dips are perfect with a glass of Processo.
Prosecco also works well just on its own as an aperitif before a meal — which is actually how most Italians drink it and it's catching on in Australia too.
